South Korea's port throughput exceeded history in the first half of the year

South Korea's port throughput reached 637.39 million tons in the first half of this year, an increase of 7.1% year-on-year, a record high, the Ministry of land and ocean said on July 27.

It is reported that the throughput of Tangjin port, Weishan port and Busan Port increased by 28.1%, 11.6% and 10.2% respectively on a year-on-year basis thanks to the increase in the import and export volume of wood and oil products. However, due to the decrease in iron ore import and export and other factors, the throughput of poshang port decreased by 5.0% year-on-year.

In terms of commodity types, the import and export of bituminous coal, oil and automobile increased by 12.9%, 11.7% and 8.8% respectively year-on-year. The import and export volume of sand and chemical products decreased by 8.7% and 5.3% respectively.

In addition, the throughput of TEU exceeded 10.05 million in the first half of the year. Among them, the container throughput of Pusan port increased by 13.0% year-on-year, reaching 7.871 million TEU, ranking the fifth in the world.
